Easy Tips to Keep Your Food Fresh Longer

Everyone wants the best and freshest food for their family, but not everyone has the means to go to the grocery store every day. As a result, we are forced to keep our food at home for longer periods of time.

Freezing milk for several weeks ahead

If you bought a gallon of milk and then realized you were going on vacation, don’t worry; if you freeze it, it won’t spoil. There are, however, a few ground rules. Pour out some milk before freezing it because it will expand in volume. Fresh milk should be frozen and kept in the freezer for no more than 4 to 6 weeks.

Freezing eggs in an ice tray

Sometimes we don’t use all of the eggs while they’re fresh, or we only use the whites while the yolks go to waste. They can also be frozen, so don’t worry! Simply break them up and pour the contents into an ice tray with a little salt or sugar (this will preserve their texture). Then, as needed, employ them.

Keeping your favorite sauce in a freezer bag

Another candidate for freezing is leftover sauce. Pour it into a storage bag, and it will be hard enough in an hour to dice and add to dishes as needed.

Lettuce leaves wrapped in a paper towel will stay fresh longer

Lettuce will remain fresh and crisp for a week if you wrap it in a paper towel. The excess moisture will soak into the towel and won’t let the leaves wither.

Apples can be stored in the fridge for several months

Apples typically last longer than other fruits, but did you know that they retain all of their flavors in the refrigerator for an extended period of time? The only thing to remember here is that you shouldn’t let them touch each other because such contact could cause damage. Wrap each of them individually in a newspaper, for example.

Store carrots in sand to keep them fresh

Gardeners recommend storing carrots in sand, which isn’t at all surprising: sand decreases water evaporation and slows down rotting.

Prevent cottage cheese and sour cream from spoiling by turning them upside down

Your cottage cheese and sour cream will remain fresh twice as long if you put them in your fridge upside down. This will create a vacuum inside that prevents bacteria growth.

Onions will stay fresh if you put them into a glass of water

Bunches of onions can retain their freshness longer if you keep them in a jar filled with water. Shear the onions where you need them, and they will keep growing.

Fresh greens are best kept in glass jars

A glass jar is the best container for fresh herbs. Onion, garlic, or parsley will keep their flavor for a month when stored like this. The greens won’t spoil, wither, dry, or lose their aroma.

By storing honey in a glass jar, you can keep it from oxidizing

Honey can keep its beneficial properties for years, but it must be stored properly. A dark glass jar with a tight-fitting lid is the best container for it. Metal containers chipped enamel, and zinc-covered jars are not suitable for honey because they will oxidize.
